Why Wes Anderson rocks: Trailer for The Fantastic Mr Fox arrives.

FUCK CGI.

Well, don’t fuck it literally, but I’m a firm believer that there is more than just CGI to make an animated film.  Apparently, Wes Anderson thinks so too.

The Fantastic Mr. Fox is Anderson’s follow up to his wonderful Darjeeling Limited.  This time around, Anderson is breaking out of his comfort zone.  Not only is he ADAPTING someone else’s work, in this case that of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory author Ronald Dahl, but he’s entering the world of animation.  And not just any animation: STOP MOTION ANIMATION.

I’m a massive stop motion fan.  One of my favorite films this year is Coraline, I’m a huge Ray Harryhausen admirer, and one of the things to do on my bucket list is to HIGH FIVE Nick Park, creator of Wallace and Gromit!  To see Wes Anderson, a director who is easily in my top 3 all time favorite filmmakers, take on the art form just tickles me giddy.

Now the first trailer is out.  I’m doing back flips over how awesome this film looks.  Its got the voice work of the usual Anderson crew, Murray, Wilson, ect, and some people new to his world, IE George Clooney, and the feel of a Wes Anderson film.  I’m already anticipating this to be one of my top ten films of the year.

What do you think?

  1. Just saw this with my eleven year old daughter! Loved It!!! Wes Anderson is the heir apparent to Hal Ashby, and yes, to have a movie that is a nod to Nick Park unintentionally as well as all the Anderson touches, mainly Life Aquatic that I can see, is Brilliant!!! We enjoyed Coraline earlier this year, and my older daughter wore out her copy of James and the Giant Peach!!! This movie will go in the classic rotation generations from now, along with Coraline and Up! by Pixar! Good to be alive with these classics falling into our laps.

  2. I read that he was quite keen do a Neighbours cameo :O. Not sure how true this is, has anyone else heard it? There’s a part of me that sort of hopes this is true lol.
