A sad, sad day for 80′s
On October 14th, one of the greatest managers to ever grace the squared circle passed away at the age of 76. Captain Lou Albano was the epitome of a heel (bad guy) manger. Lou had a knack at hustling the crowed and getting heat for the guys he managed. With his trademark beard, loud outfits and rubber bands on his face, Lou managed 14 different tag teams and 4 single competitors to championship gold! Not only was he famous inside the ring, but outside as well. His collaboration with Cyndi Lauper, playing her overbearing father in the music video “GIRLS JUST WANT TO HAVE FUN”, along with several storylines in the WWF and appearance in her music videos, Lou used his cross over fame and parlayed it to Vince McMahon, and helped behind the scenes turn the WWF into a world wide sensation.

But to me, and many people of my generation, he will always be the first MARIO that we ever knew. Lou shaved his beard and starred along with Danny Wells in portraying Mario and Luigi in the live action segments of the SUPER MARIO BROS SUPER SHOW. Lou and Danny also voiced the title characters in the cartoon as well.

Lou died of natural causes in hospices care at the age of 76, and is survived by his wife Geri, four children, and 14 grandchildren.
