As far as I’m concerned, we don’t have enough comedy news around these parts. And this is something I’m looking forward to.
I’ve been a huge fan of Zach Galifianakis for years, and it seems like he’s been on a path to stardom over the last few years, something he truly deserves. Of course, the biggest step on that path thus far has been The Hangover, and his current HBO series, Bored To Death, isn’t hurting his visibility. I declared on a podcast review of Hangover that it is only a matter of time before he’s a big star and carrying titles on his name alone.
Currently, Zach is on the verge of signing on for the lead role inthe Fox 2000 production Town House, based on the debut novel of the same name by Tish Cohen. Being described as a dramedy, the plot focuses on the agoraphobic adult son of a former rock star, whose royalties are beginning to run thin. Living with his teenage son, the man is forced to get over his fear of the outside world in order to make ends meet. Along the way he befriends a call girl, who is reportedly going to be portrayed by Amy Adams. You know here – she was the Purse Girl from Season 1 of The Office! Oh, sure, she’s made a name for herself since, but she’ll always be the Purse Girl to us.
The film, in development hell for several years now, is set to shoot this coming summer, with the Scott brothers producing, and directed by John Carney (Once). Galifianakis’ next film is Up In The Air, opposite George Clooney.
Get on with your bad self, Zach! See you on the other side of stardom.
