Joel Silver, producer extraordinaire, recently let it drop that Guy Ritchie has basically all but dropped out of Lobo. The reason? He wants to make more Sherlock Holmes films. Can you blame the man? Holmes was Ritchie’s first mega hit in his career, (and it couldn’t have come at a better time) and it seems that he wants to keep that ride going. In related news, Robert Downey Jr dropped out of Cowboys and Indians to make room for a possible Holmes sequel, as he did express the massive fun he had while making the film. Hell, he was quoted as saying that if he could just play Holmes and Tony Stark for the next few years, he’d retire happy.
Warner Brothers seems keen on doing another Holmes film. The last one made $400 million world wide, and was clearly loved by audiences far and wide. Not only that, but the whole subplot of the film was setting up a sequel anyway. So might as well move to the next level.
As for Lobo, Silver said that the film is still being developed, but will probably be shot under a different director now. Who? That is still unknown at the time. Personally, Lobo isn’t one of those sacred characters, but he basically is DC’s Deadpool. One would think that it would be a grand companion piece to the eventual Deadpool film. I honestly don’t care who directs a Lobo film (sans a few exceptions) just as long as Lobo is crass and over the top.
