Someone is out of their fucking mind and needs to be committed.

I damn near had a stroke when I read this. According to Bleeding Cool DC Comics SVP, Dan Didio is looking to publish a sequel to Alan Moore’s/ Dave Gibbons’ Watchmen graphic novel. You might think he is merely looking at publishing a second book, but NO that’s not all. Didio is looking at multiple Watchmen projects not just a single book. Apparently when Paul Levitz was in charge he kept a tight strangle hold on what could be done with the Watchmen property, similar to what Lucas does with the Star Wars property. I guess you could call it his penance for letting things go south with Moore. However with Paul stepping down Didio is looking to make a name for himself with the higher-ups. It’s basically a giant money grab. He’s gonna put out a bunch of shit with Watchmen stamped all over it and sell it all along with his soul to the comic book devil.

Here’s an excerpt from the Bleeding Cool article:

The news broke that Paul Levitz was stepping down from DC Comics as both President and Publisher, I wondered what that meant for the possibility of a Watchmen sequel. Certainly in a hundred years, you couldn’t expect there not to be one.

Well, it seems to be happening a lot sooner than I thought. I understand now that this considered a pet project of Dan DiDio, SVP-Executive Editor. That he is determined to impress new bosses by building on DC’s biggest selling comic book of all time with multiple prequel comic miniseries and spinoff ongoing projects.

I understand that both Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons have to be offered first refusal before any of these titles could be published. But if they don’t want to work on them themselves (and Alan Moore is never going to agree), DiDio has been sounding out people who might be willing to take on the task.
