Scott Pilgrim just scored.
In a move that will surely boost its financial prospects, the August 13th release Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World was bestowed a PG13 rating by the MPAA. This will be the first such rating for director Edgar Wright, whose two previous films, the Simon Pegg collaborations Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz, were both rated R. In the wake of the mild controversy regarding Kick Ass and its violent content, and whether its R rating may have hurt its box office take, it is interesting to consider this rating. Not that Pilgim’s content is overly violent, but it does contain other, more mature themes as well. Then again, the film, starring Michael Cera of the ultra-vulgar Superbad, is wrapped up in video-game fantasy and slick humor. You be the judge this summer, when the film is released on this humble writer’s birthday. Yay!
