Who has ten magical rings and wants to be in a movie? THIS GUY! In an interview with MTV director Jon Favreau mentioned that he still wants to put the Mandarin as the main protagonist in the next Iron Man movie. In the interview he states:
“You have to do The Mandarin,” he said. “The problem with The Mandarin is, the way it’s depicted in the comic books, you don’t want to see that. He also has 10 magical rings, and it just doesn’t feel right for our thing, so it’s either tech-based or the rings are not really rings.”
“But maybe with ‘Thor’ and all those others you’ll introduce magic to that world and it won’t seem so out of place”

It will be interesting to see if Favreau can pull off getting the Mandarin into the third Iron Man installment. The nice thing is he has been taking care of the setup for it so you can tell he definitely wants to get him into the movie. What am I talking about? The “10 Rings” group is in or at least mentioned in both Iron Man 1 & 2. In Iron Man 2 they were the people behind the scenes helping out Whiplash. The asian gentleman that helps Whiplash leave Moscow by providing him with a plane ticket, passport, and tickets to the race in Monaco where Whiplash can get to Tony Stark is a member of the “10 Rings”
I for one would like to see that. Having Iron Man villains in 1 & 2 be tech based was cool, but it’s time for something different. You can’t do the same thing again, you gotta do the next thing. Iron Man needs a real big threat on screen. One that will have the audience wondering if he can come out of the fight the victor. We’ll see what happens post Thor/ Captain America/ Avengers.
