Zombies first thing in the morning? HELL YA!
I was at the 11:ooam zombie fiction panel, and boy was I glad! There were so many heavy hitters in this room my head almost blew up. The panel consisted of Max Brooks(World War Z), Seth Grahame-Smith( Pride and Prejudice and Zombies), Mira Grant (Feed), Ryan Mecum (Zombie Haiku), John Skipp (Zombies: Encounters with the Hungry Dead). Now some might know the first two names but the rest? You will know them and know them well.
As the panel was started I sat front row and sucked in the atmosphere, fans of all ages packed this little room so at one point it was standing room only. The moderator was very straight forward with the first question: ” Can you argue the point of fast vs slow zombies…discuss”. At this point each author went on a tangent about which one is superior, Max Brooks was the most blunt “Fast zombies suck!” then we had Mira Grant went into a actual thesis type speech that was waaaay to long for me to type. Needles to say it was amazing!
Then there were questions from the audience and a few announcements. Max Brooks confirms that Brad Pitt will star in the film adaptation of WORLD WAR Z, author of the Dead by Dawn books that were used to get the HBO series TRUE-Blood was there in the audience her name is Charlotte Harris and is a delight to talk to.
When asked why zombie fiction is so popular, Seth Grahame-Smith put it this way “There us, we can understand them because it is a very personal subject”. I couldn’t agree more!
After the panel I chatted with every author and had a blast doing it. Keep it here for interviews with each author in the weeks to come.
