For your video game movie addiction.

We’ve heard swirling about Tekken the movie for about a year now.  It’s only been shown on US soil at last years American Film Market.  It got released in Japan to mixed reaction.  It also has Luke Goss, Cung Lee, the dude who played Shang Tsung from Mortal Kombat, and Gary Daniels in the cast.  So what the hell is going on with Tekken?

Seems that the good people at Anchor Bay have decided to pick up the film for a wide release in 2011, so says ComingSoon. The president of Anchor Bay had this to say about the acquisition.

The ‘Tekkenvideo game franchise has sold millions of copies over the past decade,” commented Bill Clark, President of Anchor Bay Entertainment. “Crystal Sky has invested millions in the production, making sure they were able to convey not only the incredible fight scenes, but also the emotional journey of the main character, Jin.”

Kasha added, “We’re pleased to be able to partner with Crystal Sky Pictures to offer this film to the current and future fans of ‘Tekken.’ We know how much anticipation there is for this film.”

Some of those comments are up for interpretation by others.

Myself, I have seen Tekken.  Actually, just in the last week thanks to a nice import I got out of Japan, and I will have a review coming very soon.  Let me just say this.  I see this movie doing moderate business.  If it’s release with some decent advertising, on at least a major theater chain with a PG13 rating, Tekken could make a decent buck, but nothing earth shattering.  Keep an eye out this week for my review, and see if Tekken will be worth your $10 bucks next year.

One Response to Anchor Bay to release TEKKEN

  1. I actually enjoyed this movie which is a surprise since pretty much every video game based movie sucks sweaty horse balls (Yea, I’m talking to you Chun-li). The fighting in this movie was pretty spot on to the game, story was ok but its really about the fighting I’m seeing a sequel in its future.
