Spiderman’s uncle and father figure has been cast. Uncle Ben will be none other than Martin Sheen (The Departed, Apocalypse Now and The West Wing) in the Spider-Man reboot. He will accept the role previously taken on by actor Cliff Robertson.
Of course, everyone who has bothered to watch the first Spider-Man franchise knows the fate of Uncle Ben and the influence he has on Peter Parker. Let’s hope Martin Sheen will be up to snuff on this important role.
Uncle Ben’s wife May, who is also Peter Parker’s aunt, may be cast with actress Sally Fields (Forrest Gump, Mrs. Doubtfire). She is in talks right now to play the role previously taken on by actress Rosemary Harris.
So here’s a rundown of the casting so far:
Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/ Spiderman, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Rhys Ifans as The Lizard and now Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben. Sounds like an interesting bunch of casting to me.
Filming for Spider-Man 3D, directed by Marc Webb, will begin in December. It has a 2012 release date.
