You can count on at least one actress in the upcoming Hobbit films.
After multiple complications and delays in the production of The Hobbit, it finally seems that the pair of films are getting back on track. It was announced today that the lovely Cate Blanchett will reprise her role as the Lady of Lothlorien herself, Galadriel. Director Peter Jackson commented that:
“Cate is one of my favorite actors to work with and I couldn’t be more thrilled to have her reprise the role she so beautifully brought to life in the earlier films.”
This is very exciting news, seeing as Blanchett did a wonderful job in the previous Rings films, and has certainly proved herself to be one of the best actresses out there today. With the onslaught of terrible news about the production, this is certainly a welcome positive point. Actors new to the series have been cast such as Ken Stott, Sylvester McCoy, Mikael Persbrandt, Jed Brophy, and William Kircher as various characters in the story. Most notably, Martin Freeman as the main character, a young Bilbo Baggins. Other recurring characters are Ian McKellan as Gandalf the Grey and Andy Serkis as Gollum. Filming is expected to begin in February.
