COMIKAZE: LA’s answer to COMIC CON?

And can they match San Diego?

There’s no hiding it.  People who have attended Comic Con love it.  Only, there’s one thing that rubs them raw so bad that many swear off going again.  The crowds.  Over this last year, we followed as Comic Con was the subject of a bidding war between LA, Anaheim, Las Vegas and San Diego. In the end, we found out that Comic Con would be staying in it’s home town til 2015.  In the wake of the hoopla, there have been at least a half dozen Comic Con substitute blow ups around the country. In Southern California alone, Long Beach Comic Con and the Anaheim Comic Con stood out as notables.  If you look at those two cities, neither is in LA.  Seems that someone has taken notice.

Crix Lee over at girlgamer.com got the word from the promoters of what is being marketed as LA’s answer to Comic Con. It’s called Comikaze.  It’s set to be held over the first weekend of November next year, at the LA Convention Center.  According to their mission statement on their website, they plan on making this a Comic Con sized event that’s for the people, and less industry.  Don’t believe me, read for your self

Comikaze is the first ever large scale comic, gaming, anime, sci-fi, fantasy, horror, and cult convention in Los Angeles. Comikaze will absolutely blow your mind! Never before has Los Angeles seen a convention like Comikaze. This is NO average comic swap – but a full on production with over 200 vendors for collectors, fans, and enthusiasts.

There will be dozens of celebrities and comic artists for photo ops and signings and live gaming tournaments with cash prizes in the THOUSANDS! There will be movie screenings and panels for all related genre films; costume contests and special giveaways and prizes. Comikaze will have SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE, catering to both seasoned Convention goers and to novices.

Most Conventions that are as large a scale as Comikaze are still not about the PEOPLE! WE ARE! We offer special discounted tickets to Los Angeles area residents because we want Comikaze to be an LA EVENT.

You can bring family, friends, or just come by yourself. Comikaze promises everyone will enjoy their experience, and unlike other conventions, Comikaze tickets are AFFORDABLE, which leaves YOU with more money to shop. We are also VERY selective in our choice of vendors and guests. Comikaze refuses to bring you the old hat principals that the other conventions have!

This will be the first MAJOR comic convention held in LA. Also the first major comic show to be held at the LA Convention Center.  There is currently a “monthly” show that is held at the Shrine Auditorium in LA. That show was once the  toast of  the comic going town.  In the recent years, it’s been lacking the quality of it’s heyday.  A yearly super show could be just the thing that LA needs.  With the large amount of industry guests that live in the area, this could be the alternative to Comic Con that many people have been looking for.  Large space, adequate conference room, next to LA Live.  Perfect for a two day show.  The convention center is already home to E3, and Anime Expo every year. Another super show in Southern California could be just what the doctor ordered.

Comikaze has already made some bold claims on their site.  Can they live up to it?  I guess we’ll see come this time next November.
