Could Jeremy Renner appear in Thor?
After Samuel L. Jackson’s cameos in various Marvel films as Nick Fury, many have been speculating who’s next on the Marvel roster for a cameo. The new buzz is around Thor and a certain purple clad, bow and arrow wielding superhero.
The Wrap is reporting that Jeremy Renner will be making a cameo appearance as Hawkeye at some point in Thor. Their source would not elaborate on when Hawkeye (real name Clint Barton) would appear in Thor or the details of that appearance.
In November 2009, Empire Online speculated that Renner would appear in Thor post-credits like Jackson in Iron Man. The Oscar-nominated actor told Empire:
“If I was a betting man, I would bet that Hawkeye would probably show up in Thor, and then be in The Avengers. But do I know for sure? I can’t say. But I’d love for that to happen. It’d be fun.”
A month later, Renner walked back his statement, telling Movieline:
“That was just one of those things that got blown way out of proportion. The only reason it came out this early, because Avengers is two years away, is that they’re thinking OK, we may throw him in Thor, we may not, as a cameo. You know what I mean? So there’s truth that we talked about it, but there’s no truth to me doing it.”
The Wrap’s source has reportedly seen an early cut of Thor and confirms Renner’s appearance in the film. Their source also confirmed that Jackson’s Nick Fury would not be in the film.
Thor stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, and Anthony Hopkins. It opens in 3D on May 6, 2011.
