It’s the greatest, only slightly racist video game reference ever!
Normally, we don’t cover a whole lot of music. But this.. this was just too good to not highlight. Rapping about nerdy pop culture has been around for years now. It’s mostly referred to as Nerdcore. Best example would be MC Chris. So, lots of nerdy white guys with high pitch voices talking about Pokemon and Star Wars. Not exactly rap per say.
Until now.
Seems that there is actually a black guy who raps about video game culture, and it sounds like rap and not a bunch of nerds standing around in a small club with Coke Zeros in their hands. His name, Random aka Mega Ran, and he’s got a new album out. It’s called Black Materia: Final Fantasy 7. Yep, it’s a rap album about the greatest RPG of all time. It’s also a play on words too! I’ll let you figure that one out though.
Complex has a sample from the album, but I”ve done some digging and found a track or two on youtube for you to listen to.
