Apparently the big reveal in the final episode isn’t Clark flying, it’s Luthor’s new silky smooth look. Scrappy Coco would be proud.
All joking aside, Michael Rosenbaum’s return to Smallville is something fans have been dying to see for 3 years now. Unfortunately due to other projects Rosenbaum is working on which require hair he is unable to shave his head for this one (two hour) episode. Instead, for the first time on this series, the actor will dawn a skull cap to create the appearance of that sweet shiny dome we all loved in the first seven seasons.
Here is what the actor had to say in a recent interview with the Courier Press about the show, hir return and his lovely locks:
“I just felt like it was the right thing to do.
I felt the fans created the show and they followed me at such a level that I couldn’t say no. I was starting to hear voices. I felt after 160 episodes, that was it. But the fans didn’t think so. I’m doing it for them. I’ve got to make the fans happy. Lex is an integral part of the show. No one expects a show to last 10 years. I gave them seven years and I thought it was pretty commendable. Now it’s been on three more years. Clark is starting to look like he’s in his 30s.
Obviously there’s unfinished business between Clark and Lex that have got to get resolved,” said Rosenbaum, who left the show three years ago for personal reasons. “Our future is depending on it.
There are other projects that I am working on that require hair,” Rosenbaum said, laughing. “It takes four months to grow back.”
Although my patience with this show has grown quite thin as you’ve heard on podcast or two, I have to admit that I’ll be tuning in for this finale. If nothing, just to see Lex grace the tiny screen in my living room just one more time. The fact that he’s doing it for the fans too only makes him that much cooler. Regardless of how you feel about the show today, it wouldn’t have come this far without the work both Michael Rosenbaum & Tom Welling have put into these two iconic characters. The Smallville series finale airs on the CW on May 13th.
