…and boy are things looking bad now.
Deadline.com is reporting that the studio (Paramount) has hired on John Chu (Step-Up 2: The Streets, Step-Up: 3D) to direct the G.I. Joe sequel.
I’m told that Paramount Pictures has chosen Jon M. Chu to direct G.I. Joe 2, the sequel to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Chu just made the studio a pile of dough with Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. The competition came down to Chu and Gary Gray, with Unknown helmer Jaume Collet-Serra also meeting with studio brass. Production will begin in the fall. Chu is repped by WME and Principato Young. I’m told they are working out his deal, but that he’s been told he is the choice. Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing. The next task will be to figure out which cast members are returning. I’ve heard the studio is starting with Channing Tatum, and trying to work out a deal for him to reprise.
I cannot believe this crap. You know I really had higher hopes for this sequel. Unless there was a massive dance off between Cobra & G.I. Joe that I have forgotten about why the hell would you choose this guy to direct a G.I. Joe sequel? Apparently because he made them a bunch of money with that retarded Justin Bieber movie…seriously? That movie could have been video of Bieber raping kittens directed by the dump I just took and it would’ve made millions. Why? Because teenage girls are morons and will watch anything (i.e.- Twilight).
The sad thing is that in addition to Chu there were directors in the running that can actually do action movies.
- Gary Gray- The Italian Job, Law Abiding Citizen, The Negotiator
- Jaume Collet- Serra- Unknown, House of Wax, Orphan
Well good job there Paramount. You had a chance to to really do something great with this sequel. Instead now we’re going to get a music video. Will Justin Bieber make an appearance? Will he be cast as “Fumbles”? At least Channing Tatum can go back to doing what he does best in this movie (cause it isn’t acting)- dancing.
