Mattie Ross is moving on to her next project.
The fourteen-year-old from the Coen Brother’s film True Grit has been rumored to star in the big screen adaptation of the popular young adult series titled The Hunger Games but it had never been much more than talk before now.
A few months ago MTV mentioned the rumors to the actress who was completely surprised to hear that she was even attached to the role. “That’s definitely an honor,” she said. “I didn’t even realize that people were mentioning my name.” Despite fan rumors there was no concrete evidence that the team behind the Hunger Games were actually looking at her to play the highly coveted role.
Then, at the Oscars on Sunday, Hailee revealed to MTV that she had indeed met with Hunger Games director, Gary Ross, and discussed a possibility of her playing the main character, Katniss Everdeen. Though this means the chance is high that she will act in the film nothing is set in stone. Hailee stated:
“It’s definitely something that we’re taking one day at a time and making sure that everything is in place.”
It’s a very safe answer for a young actress who’s scoping out her options so we’ll see what happens. I am a huge fan of the book series and out of possible names mentioned for the role she is by far my favorite. Hailee was sensational in True Grit and despite being a couple of years younger than the character in Hunger Games (Katniss is sixteen) I feel that she could definitely do justice to the role. Just braid her hair up, throw some dirt on her face, and give her a bow and arrow and she is Katniss Everdeen. Plus, the trailer for this movie with her in it would be magical. “Starring Oscar nominee Hailee Steinfeld…”. I’m getting chills just thinking about it! The movie is slated for a March 2012 release.
