Kneel before Zod? Warner Bros. together with Legendary Pictures announced yesterday that actor Michael Shannon has been cast as General Zod in Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman: Man of Steel movie.
“Zod is not only one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don’t. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role,” Snyder stated.
Shannon isn’t a big name actor like some of the more recent additions to the Man of Steel cast. He was most recently seen in the HBO series Boardwalk Empire playing Agent Nelson Van Alden. He’s also no stranger to the big screen having been in movies like Jonah Hex, The Runaways and Revolutionary Road for which he received an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actor.
I have to admit I’m a bit surprised they’re seemingly going with Zod as the big bad for Superman in this movie. Personally I think or Braniac might have been better a choice, but what the hell do I know. I’m still looking forward to this movie and thus far I don’t think there’s anything to worry about yet.
