Hopefully he’ll add a higher body count.
Last we heard anything about Expendables 2 was that Sylvester Stallone wouldn’t be returning to direct. A bit of a shame as Stallone is kind of on a kick directing wise, but after thinking about it, maybe it was for the best. I liked Expendables, but there were good chunks of the film that it felt lacking that testosterone punch that it promised. Stallone promised he’d be returning along with everyone else in the film, but will just settle for writing and acting instead. So who to fill the shoes left by Rambo? How about the dude that made Con Air?
Yep, Deadline confirmed that Simon West, who directed Con Air, the first Tomb Raider film and most recently the Jason Statham film the Mechanic. He’s purley an action director, and that’s what Expendables needs. Sure, I’ll admit he’s not the greatest filmmaker out there, but fuck me, I love Con Air, and Expendables lives in that same wacky universe that Con Air takes up residence in. West might be the guy to add some more over the top moments to what is clearly a budding franchise. Expendables 2 is due out in late 2012.
