Speaking of ZOMBIELAND: TV series is apparently in the works

Which means bad news for the sequel.

Big day for the Zombieland duo.  Not only are they writing the new Micronauts film for Paramount, but it appears that Zombieland is coming back.  As it was originally intendent to be.  A TV series.

If you know your Zombieland, it was originally intended to be a TV series.  Hell, the movie was originally suppose to be the first five episodes of the proposed TV series for CBS way back in 2005.  It’s now 2011 and things have changed.  First: Zombies are in.  Second: The film was a success.  Third:  The Walking Dead season 2 opener doing a 3.8 rating.  Highest rating ever for AMC, highest rated show that wasn’t Football all week.

When something does big, everyone wants to get in on it.  Walking Dead is big business, so why not get the next best thing: Zombieland.  Seeing that there’s a bunch of scripts that writers Wernick and Reese have been working on since the original incarnation of the show was conceived, they got stories to tell.  Currently, Fox is looking at the show as a 30 minute sitcom.  That sounds perfect.  Walking Dead provides the serious, and if that CW Zombie teen show gets off the ground, well, you got that covered.  Sitcom, even if it’s a tad toned down from the film, sounds just like what the doctor ordered.

Now, we probably won’t get the film’s original stars back, as they all have very busy film careers going on.  But, that dosen’t mean there can’t be more adventures with some other people with city and state names.  Hopefully we’ll be seeing Zombieland on Fox next fall. If we do, that means any plans for a sequel are dead.  Seeing that Paramount has kinda been dragging their feet on another cinematic go around, I’d rather have some sort of Zombieland than no Zombieland.

What say you?
