Question is: Why?
Being a child of the 90′s, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego has been ingrained into my DNA. Playing the lame ass game in computer lab on an IBM pc. Watching the game show on PBS with that sweet rockapella theme song. Though, the cartoon that aired on Fox was pretty cool. In this day and age, nostalgia is money.
Walden Media knows that. They’ve been making the Narnia films and other films based on books. The company has acquired the film rights for Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego. Oh, they also got one Jennifer Lopez, once great movie star, now American Idol judge, to produce. The film is being pitched as a National Treasure meets the Thomas Crown Affair (cause Carmen likes to steal historical artifacts.. and leave clues cause deep down, she’s a self righteous bitch) Here’s the synopsis from Deadline:
When the ACME agency’s greatest detective Carmen Sandiego becomes the world’s greatest thief, it’s up to her former partner to follow her clues and track her down. Their cat-and-mouse game leads the partner to confront a greater mystery: Is Carmen really a thief or a hero?
Right now, Lopez is only producing, but, hell, she looks the part for Carmen. I would assume as the project progresses, we’ll be hearing news of her taking the part as Carmen. Again, I question why? But then I just forget it and make a sandwich. Which, btw, a good pastrami sounds grand right about now.
