A captain’s bounty of STAR TREK 2 news!

Here we bodly go…again.

If you’re sitting down to enjoy the fantastic Super 8 (yeah, I said it) this Thanksgaving weekend, well, we’vve got a dessert for you that’s light-years ahead of any cranberry sauce you might consume.  News on the eventual sequel to J.J. Abrams’ 2009 Star Trek reboot is coming at us at Warp 9.  We already know that the entire cast is returning, and that the script has been done for some time (although Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, and Damon Lindelof continue to tweak it).  But there’s so much more.  Rather than further bog you down with a plethora of witty prose, here’s a bullet-point list of what you need to know on Star Trek 2:

*Paramount has set a release date for May 17th, 2013, scooping up a spot previously held by Roland Emmerich’s Singularity, according to  Collider.

*The film will directly compete with Pixels, and follows earlier May releases of Pacific Rim, Iron Man 3, and Fast & Furious 6.

*The film we be released in 3D, and while it hasn’t been confirmed, a Deadline report seems to indicate it will shot that way.

*Composer Michael Giacchino returns, confirmed by Coming Soon.

*MTV News was able to get Abrams to reveal that Benicio Del Toro is in talks to play a villain.

Now we fold our hands, and play the waiting game…
