Bryan Singer directs THE MUNSTERS for NBC

Can he do for The Munsters with what he did for House?

Bout a week ago, news broke that NBC was going to give Bryan Fuller a crack at his own take on the classic sitcom, The Munsters.  While many moaned, I actually perked up.  Being a fan of the original Munsters, the idea of another take on the property seemed kinda.. dull.  As many have tried, and all have failed, at getting the tempo of the original series down.  But when one Bryan Fuller was announced as the creator and show runner, my interest perked right up.  Fuller after all did give us the best season of Heroes and the classic but cancelled Pushing Daisies.

Now that the show is going to pilot, some one has to direct it.  Enter another guy who spells his name with a Y.  That would be director of X-Men and Superman Returns, Bryan Singer.   Singer will set the look of the series with Fuller, much like Barry Sonnenfeld did with Pushing Daisies.  Singer, who directed the pilot for House, and serves as an executive producer on that show, will do the same with The Munsters.

While I would personally would have picked someone different, my choice, Guillermo Del Toro, is currently making a giant monster film instead.  I’d rather him be doing that.  Singer isn’t exactly the greatest choice, but he’s a strong director.  Under the watch of Fuller, I think that this new Munsters could be something to look forward to.
