WRATH OF THE TITANS director to helm TMNT reboot?

Big Apple: 3 AM

This kinda broke late, but I figured I’d give it a good what not before bed.  Variety is reporting that Wrath of the Titans and Battle: Los Angeles director  Jonathan Liebesman is in talks to direct Paramount and Platinum Dune’s live action reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT).  Yes, the one that Michael Bay is producing.  Liebsman’s next film, Wrath of the Titans opens at the end of March, so there’s a very good chance that he’ll put pen to paper on this deal.

Paramount, who now owns the TMNT franchise through their Nickelodeon brand, is launching a new cartoon this year and has been working on re branding the Turtles for a new generation of kids.  If Jonathan Liebsman is going to helm the next live action film, the first since 1993, I would expect it to be more in the PG13 range to capture that nostalgia effect on people my age who grew up with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.   As for Liebsman actually directing this, I say go for it.  I really liked Battle: Los Angeles and Wrath of the Titans already looks 100% times better than the first film.  If Wrath is a success, that would mean he’ll get a better budget for said TMNT film as well, and we might see some mo cap mutant ninja‘s in the vein of Rise of the Planet of the Apes.  But this is all pure speculation at this point.
