There are few times when I perk up at the sound of movie news. One most recent was when Guillermo Del Toro announced he was making a true giant monster film. Today, I perked again. For you see, one half of the directing duo Neveldine/Taylor, the group responsible for the Crank films, Gamer and the upcoming Ghost Rider: Spirits of Vengeance, has announced that he’s struck out on his own.
Brian Taylor has signed a deal to make his first solo film. That film: Twisted Metal. Yes, based on the Playstation game series. Never has something seemed… so right. Twisted Metal is pretty much Mortal Kombat with monster trucks, and has the sensibility of a drug addled hobo in the middle of rave. Brian Taylor is the right man to bring this tale to the big screen. His deal will see him both write and direct the film with former Marvel Studios head Avi Arad producing.
I LOVE the Crank films with a passion, and I can not wait to see what these men do with Nic Cage and Ghost Rider. So the idea of Brian Taylor going ape shit in an R rated film about a fucked up demolition derby is pretty much glorious music to my ears.
