With Avengers in the can, Marvel is on the road to chapter 2 in their grand scope of things. Captain American 2 is looking for a director, Thor 2 is putting all the loose ends together. Ant Man might be closer than we think, but the one that started it all is getting ready to start filming this fall.
Shane Black’s Iron Man 3 is in pre-production as we speak. Everyone’s coming back, and it’s all honky dory. Except, who’ll be the big bad that Tony can’t call on the Avengers to face down with him?
Apparently Sir Ben Kingsley.
Hollywood Reporter broke the word that Kingsley is in what looks to be final word to be possibly one of TWO nemesis for Iron Man in the latest film. As to who he’s playing? Wanna put money on The Mandarin. Cause I am. The Ten Rings group that was set up in Iron Man and had a small part in Iron Man 2 might get a pay off (Ala League of Shadows will apparently get in The Dark Knight Rises) And Kingsley might play their glorious leader, albeit less racially stereotyped than his comic counterpart.
The plot is apparently going to be based around the Extremis storyline from a few years back that was written by Warren Ellis, and will see who ever Kingsley’s character come into control of a nano weapon. Great story, but I’m not a %100 sure how another tech vs tech story is going to go over. I realize that’s Iron Man’s crux, but it was also one of the things people bitched about the most about Iron Man 2. Either way, if Ben Kingsley is cast as Mandarin, I say best casting since Liam Nesson as Raz Al Ghul!
