KICK-ASS 2 is a go!

But with some changes.

Matthew Vaughn has come a long way since the first Kick Ass.  How? Oh yeah, he directed X-Men First Class.  Since then, people have been asking him for more Kick Ass, and he’s been some what mum on the topic.  We know that he’s set to direct X-Men First Class 2 early next year, and is knee deep in prep.  So when word broke today that Kick Ass 2 is a go, and at a new home at Universal Studios, it got some questions rolling.

And before they could be asked, there were answers.

  • Vaughn isn’t coming back to direct.  He is producing however.
  • The movie is being produced at Universal, instead of independently like last time.  Lionsgate originally released the first one, but Vaughn shopped the property around, and now it’s at Universal.
  • Vaughn isn’t directing.  Or writing.  Instead, the film has been written by Cry_Wolf director Jeff Wadlow.  Wadlow has been chosen by Vaughn to direct as well, based on his script.  As of right now, all of the original cast: Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse are in talks to return.

So what does this mean?  Who knows.  I wasn’t too big into Cry_Wolf, but I trust Vaughn’s judgement.  If he thinks Wadlow is the man for the job.  Then he’s the man for the job.  I’m just curious to how close the film will resemble the comic book, or if they’re going off in a different direction.  I guess we’ll know soon.
