Since just about everyone on the planet has seen the Avengers by now, you know how great it is. To me, it’s almost a flawless film, but still ranks a full 10 on my scale. It’s tied with The Raid as my favorite film of the year thus far. According to the box office tickets world wide, everyone else on the planet pretty much agrees.
Well, like many things in life, there are people out there who feel the need to nitpick and take something way out of context. Case in point, I present you with the petition to boycott Marvel and Disney over The Avengers. Why? Because of a quick one liner made by Thor about Loki being his adopted brother.
The petition was created by a woman named Jamie Berke, apparently a writer and adoption advocate as far as I can tell. What I can tell from her petition is that she is an idiot. Anyway, here’s her complaint against Marvel and The Avengers.
Marvel Comics – Apologize to Adoption Community!
Marvel Comics – with one line that you carelessly failed to edit out of the script for the Avengers movie, you have insulted adopted children and adopted parents!
In your new movie, The Avengers, the character Black Widow says “He (Loki) killed 80 people in 2 days.”
Then the Thor character replies, “He’s adopted.”Sooo..according to your scriptwriter, the fact he was adopted is the reason he is a bad guy!
Being adopted is NOT something to use for the butt of jokes! Marvel, immediately cease using adoption as the butt of jokes AND issue a public apology to the adoption community!
I would would like to graciously say “F off!” To Berke and the currently 50 other ner do well’s who’ve signed this mental breakdown of a petition. I graciously say “Pull the stick out of your butt and get a life”. It’s a joke. Anyone with an average intelligence to the mentally disabled get it.
I’m going to keep this short because I don’t want to go on some long winded jag about morons like Berke and her kind having no sense of humor and that boycott’s like these shouldn’t be dignified with a fart. But we live in a country where free speech reigns supreme. Unfortunately, we have about as many special interest/minority groups yelling about equal rights and making fun of them isn’t funny.
News flash. Much like anyone can be sued, anything can be funny, and is open game to the point your personal morals will allow. There isn’t a week that goes by where I hear some group outraged by a major company because they were offended by something in their ad campaign. Well guess what, life’s not fair, and any big business isn’t out to mock you and stomp you in the ground. How about you take five minutes, take a breath, and realize that in your effort to be equal, you’ve done nothing more than make yourself more of a minority than before. You want to be treated equal, learn to laugh at yourself, and just go on with your life. Thor isn’t teaching everyone that adoption is bad. He’s making a comment. That’s all.
If Marvel and Disney have any sense, enjoy your Scrooge McDuck size money bin right now that The Avengers are raking in.
