I’ve been weary of the Spider-Man reboot since it was announced. Then again, Raimi’s version for part 4 didn’t sound that enthralling either. Then the casting begun. Then the set photos. It all felt a like a fever dream that this film actually exists. But the trailers that Sony has been putting out have impressed me bit by bit. I like how Webb has shot Spidey, in his now classic McFarlane style. I’m not feeling the Lizard final design too much, but I love the character. And the need for a retelling of the origin story is still what’s keeping me from really getting hyped for this ala Avengers.
This 4 minute trailer that was released tonight is a lot of stuff we’ve seen already, but the opening moments are actually stellar.
My main quip: Bridge scene, straight out of the first Spider-Man film. Second: The needless need to TAKE OFF THE DAMN MASK! I hate this cop out. I hate it, hate it, hate it. I know who the actor is. I don’t need to be reminded that Andrew Garfield is under that mask. Spider-Man, or really, any other super heroes with secret identities DON”T TAKE OFF THEIR MASKS IN PUBLIC. Especially when facing one of their nemesis. It’s counter productive!
But I digress.
The Amazing Spider-Man opens July 3rd.
