I’m on a bit of a Robocop high at the moment. After seeing the Hero Complex’s 25th anniversary screening of the film, to which the question was asked: What do you think of the remake? Peter Weller’s response:
“Fuck em!”
But that’s Peter Weller. I on the other hand love Robocop. And there have been enough shitty takes on the character past the first two films to try another crack at it. So Jose Padilha is directing reboot with Joel Kinnaman taking over the role of Alex Murphy/Robocop.
Now for some credentials. Gary Oldman has signed on to the film, playing the actual scientist who built Robocop. Already something different as in the original film, the constructors of Robocop were kind of background characters over Bob Morton and his cohorts who were in charge of the Robocop program. Oldman joining the cast adds a bit more prestige to what seems like a cash grab by MGM.
Either way, I’m hoping that this Robocop is going to be better than Robocop 3, all of the Prime Directive films, and the god awful tv series from the 90′s, but not cooler than this:
