Give and take here.
Thursday was a little light in the department of BIG money news. Sans the surprise of the Lone Ranger footage, nothing big was really announced. Fox though did drop a few tidbits about their Marvel properties.
Fantastic Four: It’s official, Josh Trank is directing the reboot. This is a definite step in the right direction if Fox is serious about doing another Fantastic Four film. Trank, who directed Chronicle, has been linked to the movie since March, and finally putting pen to paper and being put in charge of Marvel’s first family is the perfect choice.
Daredevil: Sadly the same can’t be said about Daredevil. The reboot to this film (franchise?) was announced over a year ago, and David Slade was set to direct. Coming off of his his biggest hit, Twilight Eclipse. Fox was looking at turning Daredevil into their own Batman. Slade was the man for the job.
But now there’s more. Slade is directing the pilot to NBC’s Hannibal, and since the production was kind of dragging it’s feet he’s had to back away from ‘ol Horn Head. Slade off of Daredevil is, well… bad. I had a lot of hope for the new DD film and a lot of it was predicated on Slade. I have a strong feeling that Fox is going start rushing on this one due to the fact that if they don’t get it off the ground DD’s rights revert back to Disney. Rushing usually equals suck.
