And it’s not in pog form.
Paul Fusco’s dream is about to come true. Alf is coming back into the main stream, and it’s going to be in the form of a movie. Sony Animation, along with Smurfs producer Jordan Kerner, have acquired the film rights to Alf and will bring the cat eating, wise cracking alien to the big screen in a animated/hybrid film.
So why now? I’ll give you one guess. Figure it out? No, ok, here’s the reason why Alf is probably being brought back in a animated/live action film?
TED.
I’ll put good money on the fact that Ted has killed at the box office and Sony sees Alf as a strong, family friendly version of Ted. Kerner, who did the same hybrid film with Smurfs, knows this type film well, as Smurfs has done gangbusters theatrically. Alf has as much potential. But, as a life long Alf fan, I’m worried that he’ll be watered down into nothing like the Smurfs were. Alf had that kind of humor that both kids and adults found funny on every level with out it being lame. If Fusco is heavily involved, especially in writing the script, this might not be a problem. Time will tell I guess.
