It would appear that it’s the year of the fairy tales. In what appears to be a bold move by the studios, they have heard the masses and are finally stopping with the remakes. Now, what they’re doing (instead of going back to that thing called originality) is going into their children’s bookshelves at home and making fairy tales cool? With recent releases such as Alice in Wonderland, Red Riding Hood, Mirror Mirror and Snow White and the Huntsman I guess one could’ve guessed this was coming next. Wait for it… Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, in 3D no less.
This new take on the sugar junkie (likely diabetic) children that get lost in a forest, drawn into a witch’s house made of gingerbread & candy, only to then be nearly eaten after having been fattened up has clearly been revised somewhat based on this image released by Paramount Pictures.
15 years after their traumatic gingerbread-house incident, siblings Hansel and Gretel have become a formidable team of bounty hunters who track and kill witches all over the world.
Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters 3D stars Jeremy Renner (Avengers) as Hansel and Gemma Arterton (Prince of Persia) as Gretel. Look for it in theaters January 2013.
