Here we go again.
I’m going be brief with this “news”. Jon Landau, James Cameron’s producer on the Avatar films, told Collider in a recent interview this that there’s a real good possibility of seeing Cameron’s long announced manga adaptation around 2017 at the earliest. He’s busy with the next two Avatar films, of which, he’s talking prequels already.
I’ve given up on seeing this film. I’m young, but James is not. He’s pushing 60 now. He’s stated that after Avatar 2 and 3 and probably 4, he’s probably done making mainstream films. Yes, he’s still said that Battle Angel is on the list before he focuses all his time and effort on the exploration of the sea, but I don’t buy it. I had hope that after Avatar, he’d take a break, do Angel, then maybe do more Avatars. Sadly, that’s not what happened. Fox has given him a Scrooge McDuck size money back to swim in if he makes more Avatars, and that’s what he’s doing.
What I’m miffed about is this. I’m never going to see a Battle Angel film. I love the anime and manga. When it was announced OVER A DECADE AGO, that Cameron would be making it in to a film, I was ecstatic. He was the perfect guy for the materiel. Now, he’s to busy to make it in any sort of foreseeable future, and he’s too goddamn stubborn to let anyone else make it. This is like having the cure for the cold ready to go, yet the public won’t get it because the makers are too busy making a drug that gives you a 10 hour boner with out the fear of dying from blood loss. And they won’t release the cure until they’re done with the boner pill.
So I’m washing my hands with this. I don’t care anymore. I’m happy that the man has found what makes him happy in life, and will probably give us many a great things in the future. Just Battle Angel won’t be one of them.
