Legendary’s GODZILLA has a release date!

BY ODIN’S EYE!

I’m writing this as I’m trying to contain my geek boner from giving me a heart attack.  After two years since announcing it’s acquisition, Legendary has set a release date for their version of Godzilla.

I have to wait till May 16th, 2014.

Nearly 16 years to the day when the fabled Sony takeover had disappointed everyone.  More importantly though, it’s the 60th anniversary of Godzilla himself.  Very appropriate if you ask me.

What’s so exciting about this is that Legendary has been somewhat mum on Godzilla since announcing the film about two years ago.  Since then, Legendary has moved forward with another giant monster film, Pacific Rim.  That film will be released next July, and I fully expect a teaser trailer on that movie.

Gareth Edwards, who made the indie film Monsters is directing.  Legendary rocked the house at Comic Con this year when they surprised everyone with a proof of concept trailer that blew everyone away.  I think that the reaction to that trailer is what is pushing Legendary to get moving on this project finally.

Godzilla is pretty much my childhood all the way into adulthood obsession.  Everything that Legendary has been saying and showing has been telling me that they’re going to be making the Godzilla film I’ve seen in my head for the last 25 years.  Let the rumors and production news begin!
