Well isn’t this a pleasant surprise.
After last year’s Brett Ratner/Eddie Murphy Oscar gig debacle (the one that had Ratner running his mouth during the promotion of his film Tower Heist). The Academy needed a good shot in the arm this year to gain some momentum back.
Enter their choice for host this year, Seth MacFarlane. Man of many voices, director of Ted, and all around good guy. MacFarlane is coming off his highly praised hosting duties on SNL, and he’s done a bit of presenting as well. Just tell him where the mic is and everything is groovy.
MacFarlane is a consummate professional when it comes to stuff like this and I think he’ll be a perfect blend of old school mentality with the new age edge that the producers are looking for to get the younger crowds to start tuning in again. The man loves his song and dance too, and unless the writing is atrocious (and it’s been before) I think that the 2013 Academy Awards are going to be a bit better than previous years. Hell, we could see the start of the next Billy Crystal in hosting.
