No, this is no joke.
It was teased over ten years ago before the man went into politics. It’s been talked about since Conan the Destroyer. But yes, it’s finally happening. Arnold Schwarzenegger is returning for a tride and true sequel to Conan the Barbarian.
According to Deadline, producers Fredrik Malmberg and Chris Morgan, who own the film rights, have got the project set up at Universal (home of the frist two Conan films) and the studio wants the film out by summer 2014. The idea to the film is to see Conan as the king we glimpsed at the end of the first film.
“The original ended with Arnold on the throne as a seasoned warrior, and this is the take of the film we will make,” Malmberg told me. “It’s that Nordic Viking mythic guy who has played the role of king, warrior, soldier and mercenary, and who has bedded more women than anyone, nearing the last cycle of his life. He knows he’ll be going to Valhalla, and wants to go out with a good battle.”
This film will ignore both the Jason M0moa film that was released last year and Conan the Destroyer, the best left forgotten sequel.
I am COMPLEATLY down for this film. I love the idea of a old Conan. One ravaged by time and battle after battle who’s a bitter asshole ruling with an iron fist. Even old, he still knee deep in whores, and drinking wine from the hollowed skulls of his bitter enimies from his throne room where women battle each other for the enjoymen of the. I do question if John Milius is going to return to direct, or if some one new will try to harness the power of a Schwarzenegger Conan. Either way, make it R, make it bloody. That was one of the best things the Momoa had going for it (Which wasn’t a bad film IMO)
