As many of you have probably heard, there’s a very real possibility that Marvel Studios may find a cheaper actor to play Tony Stark.
Yes, you read that correctly. Kevin Feige, Marvel’s fearless leader, has hinted that they might go a James Bond-ish route with it. Really? How about you don’t? The Marvel cinematic universe wasn’t exactly on a pedestal before Iron Man.
Let’s think back on the movies that were released prior to Iron Man: X-Men 1-3, both Fantastic 4 movies, and last but most definitely least, Spider-Man 1-3. These movies aren’t exactly what you want people talking about when they say that they’re huge Marvel fans. The films that have released since and including Iron Man, are what helped Marvel compete against the only amazingly popular DC Comics film, The Dark Knight.
The way RDJ interacts with the other actors is a big reason he needs to stay. He’s so quick witted and plays off of his cast members better than anyone I’ve seen. Can you really say that you would have preferred some other actor to request a “phat beat to beat my buddy’s ass to” from Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein? Or be asked to “exit the donut” by Nick Fury?
In closing, Robert Downey, Jr. is Tony Stark. Don’t be foolish and let his price tag get in the way. He might be expensive but…you get what you pay for. There’s a reason the Iron Man films have been so successful and it’s not Gwyneth Paltrow. Downey, Jr. is the only person I want to see playing Tony Stark because he’s good at it and that’s what I’m used to. Let’s just pay him what he wants and keep making successful films, ok?
What’s your opinion about this? Should RDJ be replaced or should he stay? Let us know your opinion! Be sure to check out Iron Man 3 in theaters May 3rd, 2013!
