Last night Mark Hamill (aka Luke Skywalker) was the surprise special guest at the Return of the Jedi screening for the Cape Town Film Festival put on by Entertainment Weekly. Hamill talked the new Star Wars trilogy and touches on creative meetings he’s had thus far with Lucasfilm and where Luke Skywalker goes post- ROTJ Ewok celebration.
The screening was held at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood, CA which is part of the American Cinematheque. There were three screenings held at 2pm, 7pm and 10pm. Based on conversations with other attendees there was only a special guest at two of the screenings (7pm & 10pm). The original intent of the film festival organizers I believe was to have a different surprise guest for each showing, but Mark Hamill was gracious enough to be the Q&A guest for the two screenings. This was a rare treat as Hamill seldom does these types of events. Sure you can catch him at an autograph signing at Comic-Con or a Sushi Girl panel at Comikaze, but a Star Wars screening? These things just don’t happen folks.
Enjoy the details in the video below. Look for my review of the night as well as the full un-cut video from the Q&A later tonight.
