Miyazaki’s latest masterpiece.
I was not yet born when Walt Disney died. To live in an era when one could anticipate his next movie must have been magical. Luckily, I live in the time of Hayao Miyazaki. So I can feel that magic with the announcement of each of his new films. The fact that the man is in his twilight years weighs on me every he finishes a film. Will it be his last? Thankfully, not yet. He’s finishing up work on his latest film, a biography about Jirō Horikoshi, designer of the Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter plane. Miyazaki’s love of flight is legendary, with most of his films featuring some sort of spectacular air scene, if not the whole film. That’s what we seem to be getting this time around.
The teaser trailer has arrive, and while it’s brief, it’s pure unfiltered magic.
The Wind Rises comes out in Japan on July 20th, and I’m sure that Disney will have this released stateside by this time next year.
