Reflecting on WONDERCON

This past weekend marked the first time that WonderCon moved from its cozy home in San Francisco to the entertainment hotbed that is Anaheim, California. With the renovations to the Moscone Center continuing, Comic-Con International (CCI) was forced to look for a new spot for the 2012 show. Upon the initial announcement of the move, there was much said about the move being temporary, but as time has marched on the rhetoric has changed. In fact, it was interesting to see that very little about the San Francisco roots of WonderCon was even mentioned in this year’s program guide. Continue reading

Don’t Overlook These WONDERCON Panels

Although WonderCon doesn’t have quite the star power of San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), it is still easy to overlook some great panels when you’re distracted by the largest comic publishers and some of the biggest movie studios. I’ve analyzed the schedule closely and found the panels that I think might be overlooked, but definitely shouldn’t be. So, if you want to stay away from the Hall H-like lines of some of the larger rooms, follow this schedule and enjoy some of the hidden jewels of the 2012 WonderCon. Continue reading

Wondering what else there is to do outside of WonderCon?

Although this year’s WonderCon is shaping up to be one of the biggest yet, the Anaheim area itself is home to a number of complimentary experiences that will fill your nights and additional days with fun. Even though I live within 30 minutes of the convention center, I have a room in Anaheim from Thursday-Sunday, so that I can take advantage of each minute. Simply, there won’t be enough time to take in everything that the show and surrounding area will offer. So, what else is there to do outside of the show? Well, I’m going to skip spots that are abundantly obvious like Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm (although both are great). Even removing these items, there are still too many to list.
